Kapil Sharma is an Indian stand-up comedian, Actor, TV anchor and singer. He had made his place in the Forbes India Celebrity list for the first time in 2013 being ranked 93rd on the list and has moved up to 33rd in 2014.^[1]^[2] He has also been declared the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2013, in the Entertainment category.^[3] Currently he is hosting an Indian comedy show "Comedy Nights with Kapil".^[4]

Sharma was born in Amritsar, Punjab, India, His father was a head constable in the police department and his mother Janak Rani is a Housewife.^[5] Sharma started working at a local PCO. He studied at Hindu college in Amritsar.^[6]

Career[edit]

Sharma has been working in the comedy show Hasde Hasande Ravo on MH One, until he got his first break in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, one of the nine reality television shows he has won.^[6] He had his first audition in Amritsar for season 3 but was soon rejected. He was determined and again went to Delhi for audition and got selected and became the winner in 2007 for which he won 10 lakhs as prize money.^[4] Then he participated in Sony Entertainment Television’s Comedy Circus^[7]

In 2013, Sharma launched his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil, under his banner K9 Production. The concept of Comedy Nights is partly borrowed from the British show The Kumars at Number 42.^[6]^[8] Sharma also participated in Ustaadon Ka Ustaad, he has also hosted reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6 and has made appearances in Bigg Boss.^[9] Sharma hosted comedy show Chhote Miyan.^[10]^[11] At CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards, Sharma was felicitated with Entertainer of the Year award for 2013 by Amol Palekar.^[12] In 2014 Lok Sabha Election, he was declared the Brand Ambassador by Delhi election commission.^[13] He was to make his film debut with Yashraj film's Bank Chor, but the comedian opted out of it.^[14] He was featured as guest on the opening episode of Indian television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 8 on 17 August.^[15]He's making his film acting debut in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu directed by Abbas Mustan opposite to Elli Avram.^[16]
