Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffery (born 29 March 1939 in Datia, India), better known as Jagdeep, is an Indian film actor who has appeared in more than 300 films. He is especially known for his comic roles. He played Soorma Bhopali in Sholay (1975), Machchar in Purana Mandir (1984), Salman Khan's dad in Andaz Apna Apna (1994) and directed a movie Soorma Bhopali with this character as the protagonist.[2]
Career[edit]
Jagdeep started his film career as a child artist extra in films like B. R. Chopra's Afsana, then became a child artist in Ab Dilli Door Nahin, K A Abbas's Munna and AVM's Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke. Then came Bimal Roy's Do Bigha Zamin with which he started playing comic roles. Some hit songs are picturised on him like 'paas baitho tabiyat bahal jayegi' from 'Punarmilan',, 'In pyar ki rahon mein' from the same film, 'chal ud ja re panchhi' from superhit movie 'Bhabhi' where he is paired opposite Nanda, 'Aa Gaye Yaaro Jeene Ke' from 'Phir wohi Raat'.
He is also known for his appearances in many horror Movies, especially in projects of "Ramsay Brothers". He appeared in famous hits like Veerana, Tehkhana and Purana Mandir.
Personal life[edit]
Along with Naved Jaffery and Bollywood actor Javed Jaffrey, Jagdeep has three more children- Hussein, Shakira Shafi and Suraiya- from his first wife, Naseem Begam. Naved and Javed were hosts of the popular showBoogie Woogie. Reports surfaced that Jagdeep's first-born Hussein had died a painful death in poverty.[3]
