Rajpal Yadav is an Indian film actor, known for his comic roles in Hindi cinema.

Early life and education[edit]

Rajpal Yadav was born and brought up in Mumbai and Lucknow capital of Uttar Pradesh, where he received his primary education. He was associated with Shahjahanpur theatre and performed in lots of plays before going to Lucknow for theater training in the Bhartendu Natya Academy during 1992-94. After completing two years course there, he went to the National School of Drama during 1994-97 in Delhi. Thereafter, he moved to Mumbai in 1997 to pursue his career in the Indian Film Industry.[citation needed]
A businessman has accused Rajpal Yadav of not returning his Rs. 5 crore loan amount, and has filed a court case against him and his wife. On 3rd December, 2013 the Delhi High Court sentenced Yadav to jail for 10 days for contempt of court in relation to the case filed.[1][2]

Career[edit]

He acted in the Doordarshan's television serial Mungeri ke bhai Naurangilal as the main protagonist. This was sequel to a similar television program on Doordarshan: Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne.[3][4]
Although Yadav found success in negative roles, he has preferred comic roles such as in Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya and went on to become a prolific comedian in Hindi films. His films include Hungama, Waqt: The Race Against Time, Chup Chup Ke, Garam Masala, Phir Hera Pheri, Dhol to name a few.[citation needed]
Despite comedy being his main orientation, Yadav has had leading character roles in films like Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, Ladies Tailor, Rama Rama Kya Hai Drama, Hello! Hum Lallan Bol Rahe Hain, Kushti,Mirch,Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh and others.[citation needed]
For the film Jungle he won Sansui Screen Best actor award in a Negative Role along with a nomination for the Screen Best Actor award. He received the Yash Bharati Award for the film Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon. Yadav was also awarded by the Janpad Ratna Award. [5][6]
He will be seen with his Telugu debut in 2015 with Kick 2 and he will be also seen playing the main transgendered antagonist part in controversial Film maker Faisal Saif's multilingual film Amma.[7]
