Urmila Kanitkar (Marathi: उर्मिला कानिटकर) is an Indian film actress in Marathi cinema, and television. She is known for her roles in the Marathi film Shubh Mangal Savdhan, Hindi TV serials Maayka and Mera Sasural and the Marathi serials Asambhav, Uun Paus and Goshta Eka Lagnachi. She is a classical dancer and made her Telugu cinema debut in 2013 with Welcome Obama.

Early career[edit]
She began her career as a Kathak Dancer. She participated in the ballet Azadi Ki Jung, which was performed in 1997 to celebrate 50 years of Indian Independence. Kanetkar also studied Odissi from the eminent dancer Sujata Mahapatra in Bhubaneshwar. She married Marathi Actor Aadinath Kothare, son of Famous Marathi Filmmaker Mahesh Kothare in 2011. Her mother Neelima Kanetkar is a retired advocate (now only advises people) in family matters such as divorce and domestic violence. Urmila Kanetkar is nowadays almost absent from any commercial role except for the fact that she dances for charity and other stage sponsored events and shows for the association Aadipath founded by her mother showing a more of stardom and of course the fame of Kothares and Kanetkars families. This NGO mostly promotes anti-dowry Section 498 and Domestic violence cases filed (one of the most misused law by women)for maximising chances of divorce by wives against men - one of the most misused laws by women of India mostly instigated by such NGOs.

She entered cinema with Shubh Mangal Savaadhan and also worked in Aai Shappath and Saavali. She played a supporting role in Maayka. After Maayka, she replaced Manasi Salvi as the heroine of the Marathi serial Asambhav. She portrayed the double role of Shubra who sees visions of her past birth Parvati, also played by her.[1] The show's popularity earned her roles in Hindi serials like Mera Sasural and marathi serials like Gosht Eka Lagnachi and Vegh.[2][3]
